LAURA MERCIER

FOUNDATION TOO DARK?

HOW-TO:
MAKE IT WEARABLE!

RRP: $59.00 (30ml)

Most of us have been there some time or another. We buy the perfect foundation,
it gives a flawless finish, looks either matte or dewy and fresh and never cakey or drying.
We wear it to death and when we go to reach for our trusty back up we realise it is not longer
Winter, but Summer and our skin tone has warmed from the sun and fake tanning and now our
perfect foundation is completely the wrong shade! Whaaa!

Here's where I come in to let you in a few simple tips and tricks to make your foundation work
for your skin tone. No matter if it is too light or too dark. Most of the time, it can be easily fixed
with a bit of tweaking with just one product!

My skin tone is naturally pretty light. I'm not totally pasty, but I'm definitely not super tanned either.
So when this incredibly lust worthy foundation landed on my desk to dry I knew I had to make
it work!

This Laura Mercier Moisture Supreme Foundation is in the shade Golden Beige and is about
2-3 shades too dark for my skin at the moment. I have been fake tanning a lot recently
so it doesn't look too far from the rest of the skin on my body, but I do still need to lighten it up a bit.

To lighten up a darker foundation simply find your favourite moisturiser or sunscreen.
The richer and thicker the cream the better chance of it lightening up your foundation and giving
your skin a dewy, fresh and natural finish whilst also moisturising and protecting your face
from the sun! Bonus win!

Here I have blended equal amounts of the Laura Mercier Moisture Supreme Foundation
with my favourite daily moisturiser of the moment. Puretopia's Instant Moisture Daily
Face Moisturiser which contains SPF 15 which aids in the lightening process.
As you can see the result is a much better match to my skin's colour!

This particular foundation is easy to work with with the pump dispenser. The product is a great
consistency. Not too thick or runny. I found it blended out onto my skin better when I used my
beauty blender as opposed to my fingers as the product did not want to move around once applied
with my fingers. However once I added the Puretopia Instant Moisturiser, it blended much easier
and gave my skin a dewy finish as well as added hydration as this foundation already contains
an amazing hydrating formulation.

The coverage of this foundation is quite good, it conceals fine lines although it
does not conceal pores at all. I would recommend using a good primer underneath!
The Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Radiance is on my wish list!

The packaging of this bottle is gorgeous is it's glass bottle. I love foundations in glass bottles as
opposed to plastic ones as I find they store and last much better and longer this way. They also
look much better quality, you just need to be careful not to drop them!
That, as any beauty addict would agree, is a makeup tragedy!

fragrance, silicone & paraben free?!

On the flip side, if you find you seem to be stuck with a foundation too light for your current
skin tone, either mix a bit of a darker shade if you have it, or blend a bit of fake tan into it!
Just play around with different quantities to get your perfected DIY shade!

Do you have foundations stuffed away in draws no being used because the shade is
either too light or too dark?

POLISHED LONDON

~ P O L I S H E D   L O N D O N ~

DRY SHAMPOO

Blighty Brunette!

You know what I just love about dry shampoos?
Not only do they absorb any excess oil from my roots on second or third day old un washed hair,
add loads of much needed volume and texture on certain days, BUT they also make my hair
smell so fresh, clean and amazing, even on days when it secretly isn't!

What's in particularly clever about this specific Polished London dry shampoo,
is that it is designed specifically for brunette hair, so NO WHITE RESIDUE!

Omg thank you! Yay!

The formula itself is actually brown, so it doesn't make my hair appear grey.
Such a smart little can of goodness!

You could almost use it as a back up wash off spray tan if you were absolutely desperate!
I sprayed a little spot on my leg to see what it was like before I put it through my hair,
and it left a brown spot, so you never know! It dries almost instantly but does rub off
easily as well, so probably not the greatest idea as it would probably ruin your couch or
whatever your skin touched. Buy hey, who knows, let me know if you try it!
Even if it was just for a photo of something so you didn't look ghostly pale.

Anyhow, at least I can confidently say it does a perfect job at being itself - a dry shampoo!
As with all dry shampoos, you need to hold the can about 30cm away from your head
and then start spraying to get the best results. I would recommend popping a towel around your
shoulders whilst doing so so you don't get any off spray on your clothes.

If you're a novice dry shampoo user or just don't like the thought of it getting on your
clothes or anywhere else, then you can always just spray a bit onto your hair brush and
distribute it through that way. Works just as well and gives you a little more control.

NOTD

~ Winter Nails Of The Day! ~

(Chevron Inspired!)
Well.... It sort of worked!)

I love sporting adventurous looking nails.
I also love interesting textures and patterns and all of the
amazing amd creative art that can be created on such a small canvas.
Today I was inspired by the cold, rainy, winter day and since it has been
a while since I last posted a NOTD post, I thought,
why not cease this rare, creative moment!

I am definitely and obviously no expert when it comes to nail art!
This is my first try at the popular Chevron pattern that is so in style right now!
Not only on nail art. I have also noticed it predominantly dominaing home decor
and I am totally falling in love with it!
Omg, my style is modernising!

TOOLS!

STEP #1
Remove any old nail polish with soft cotton balls and nail polish remover.
Prep your nails and paint with the shade of your choice.

STEP #2
Once dry, cut thin strips of matte sticky tape.
(Matte seems to be less sticky and less likely
the peel off your nail colour)
Arrange them in a zig zag pattern across each nail.

STEP #3
Apply a clear top coat to your nails.
Start one nail at a time as the clear polish will dry quickly
and you will need it wet for the loose glitter to stick.

STEP #4
Place your finger face nail side down into your glitter pot.
This is a less messy method than sprinkling the glitter and having
it go everywhere. Your nail will come out looking completely covered
in glitter. Don't panic! :)

STEP #5
Repeat step #4 with the rest of your nails
and let dry for a minute or two.

STEP #6
Once dry you can use either some cotton tips or a fluffy brush to
dust away any excess glitter from around your nails.
Then carefully begin to peel off all of the matte
tape from each nail.

STEP #7
Secure any fall out of glitter and to prolong
your efforts, finish with a clear top coat.

Wala!
All done! :)

Mine is far from perfect, so don't stress if it doesn't turn
out super neat. You're the only one who'll see it up close enough to
see all the tiny little flaws.
It looks much better from a distance anyway!

Scunci Criss Crosser

Scunci

~ Criss Crosser ~

Who remembers the famous fishtail braid from their school days?
I haven't rocked this style probably since then, and that's going on
....uh let's see, (counts) eeek has it already been 13 years!?
Ok, lets just get on with this simplified way on how to achieve
this tricky braid. This Criss Crosser gives you a helping hand
so anyone can do it! :)

Step #1
Brush all of your hair to one side.

Step #2
Separate all of your hair into two equal parts.

Step #3
Place each section of hair into the Criss Crosser as shown.

Step #4
Here is where it gets a little tricky. It took me a few goes,
so don't stress if at first you don't succeed. :)
Take a small section of hair from one side and remove it out of the Criss Crosser.
Place it diagonally across to the other side and place it back into the Criss Crosser.

Step #5
Repeat step #4 on the other side and keep repeating until you have created
a criss cross fish braid style to the length you desire.

Step #6
Secure with a clear elastic and decorate with hair accessories if you wish.

SCUNCI - THICK & FULL PONY!

~ SCUNCI ~

How-To Thick & Full Pony!

My Step-By-Step Guide!

Step #1
Gather the top section of your hair just the same as
you would if you were creating a half up half down hair style.

Step #2
Pick up your Scunci thick pony tool and place it
underneath the gathered section of hair.

Step #3
Gather the rest of your hair up around the tool like you would
to create a normal pony.

Step #4
Reach for your snagless Scunci hair tie provided in the kit
and tie it around all of your hair.

Step #5
The black elastic will hold not only your hair,
but the Scunci tool securely in place as well.

Step #6
Make sure you cannot see the Scunci tool poking through
your hair and you're good to go!

I love the look of fuller, thicker hair as I think it just makes it look so
much healthier and a little more glam. :)

I love sporting this look for something just a little bit different from my
normal routine.

DIY - Simple Brush Holder

This idea made me look at my old candles just lying around in
a whole new way. I never noticed before what fantastic jars and mugs I
have just waiting to be de-potted, cleaned and transformed into
perfect little brush storage holders just like this one I created
pictured above!

-

This is a pretty straight forward how-to.
All you need to do is follow these 5 simple steps!

Step 1
If you have some old candles lying around, take notice of
what they're actually stored in.
Would this make a good brush holder or storage container?
(Mine was close to becoming my new favourite drinking glass,
but I wanted a brush holder more!)

Step 2
Use a blunt old kitchen knife or flat head screw driver
or simular to dig out the remaining and excess unwanted
candle and wax.
(I got a strong, male, adult (ie hubby) to help
as mine was stuck good and proper!) :/

Step 3
Give it a good clean with hot, soapy water.
You'd be surprised how good they polish up.
(Mine was all cloudy and black from the candle and smoke
residue and it came up a treat!)

Step 4
If you like the clear look as I do, pick out something you want to
help hold the brushes upright. I love these clear glass beads,
but you can use just about anything from rice (which you can use food colourings to make it match your decor or if you're bold, make it rainbow!), plastic beads
which come in an a thousand different and sizes, buttons, glitter, sequins, etc!

Step 5
Throw in as much of your chosen style of filling into your
jar/glass as you desire, then add in your makeup brushes!
(This can also work well to store stationary, pens, or even eyeliner
pencils and/or lipliners!)

Find a place to store them out in the open so you can admire
your handy little work of art anytime you like! :)

What has been your fav DIY creation?
I would love to see/read about it!

How To Achieve The Perfect Hair Bun!

Using The Scunci Bun Maker!
(Pictured Below)

Here is my Step-By Step Guide!
-

Step 1:
Pop your hair into a normal pony tail. Can be any height you choose.
Step 2:
Place the bun maker around your hair tie. Don't worry if it a bit loose.
Step 3:
Spread your hair around the bun maker. You can do this in sections, but also works pulled around all at once as I have done.
Step 4:
Secure hair around the bun with Bobby Pins.  You can use extra if needed but I found the four provided in this pack was surprisingly all I needed.
Step 5:
Spray with hairspray for extra hold and to smooth down any fly aways.
(I have not used any hairspray or any other products in the photos above)

Too easy!
Literally only takes 2 minutes!

You can also watch how to achieve this look in the video below!

New Trend - Ombre Lips!

As an obsessed make up addict I am always up for trying a new trends and experimenting with different looks and working at perfecting my skills.

Recently, I have seen this ombre lip trend around and thought I'd give it a go & these are some of the looks I came up with. Some more wearable than others, but hey make up is fun and anything goes these days.

When it comes to using lip liners, I have often been to lazy to bother but I've recently come to learn they're actually brilliant at helping to keep your lipstick not only neat and more defined, but also does a great job at making the colour last much longer when applied all over your lips not just the outline.

To achieve my ombre effect here is my super simple step by step guide.

1. Gently exfoliate your lips with a lip scrub. My favourite is Lush Bubblegum but any kind will do, you can even whip up your own with a few ingredients from the kitchen. (If you'd like to see a blog post on making your own DIY lip scrub please let me know.)

2. Moisturise your lips with a simple balm. A plain waxy one will work best as opposed to a shiny tinted one.

3. Figure out a colour combination you want to try. My favourite one I created was a pinky red using a Chi Chi lip liner in Status & Legally Pink and Nivea Fruity Shine lip balm. Watch my How-To video here.

4. Apply the darker shade you chose to out outline of your lips, you can apply a thicker line than you usually would if just applying it normally.

5. Next apply the lighter shade to the inner part of your lips.

6. Blend the two shades together. There are different ways to do this,  but I found the best way was to do this with my finger. Similar to when you are blending eye shadow, you are just doing the same on your lips. So a lip brush will also work well for this step.

7. I found since using lip liners my lips were feeling quite dry by this step so I applied applied tinted balm close to the shade I just created to fix the problem but not change the ombre effect.

Have you or would you ever try this lip look?
Let me know below what your fav lip colour combo would be! :)
